Doo-Wop Concert Supports Games for the Physically Challenged

Musicians like Larry Chance & The Earls and acappella group Classic Sounds donated their talents while generous residents donated money.

A benefit doo-wop concert Sept. 15 at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park supported the Games for the Physically Challenged, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano said.

Musicians like Jay Siegel’s Tokens, Larry Chance & The Earls, Kid Kyle and acappella group Classic Sounds donated their talents while generous residents donated money.

The Nassau County Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged were held May 30-June 1 at at Mitchel Field and Nassau Community College.

In 2011 New York State announced plans to eliminate all funding for the Empire State Games. Mangano formed the Committee to Save the Games, which successfully reached its fundraising goal to keep the games alive thanks to the generosity of area businesses, schools and local citizens.
