What to Feed Your Parrots

Parrots shouldn't be on a seed based diet. It is unhealthy and reduces their life span significantly. Just because the pet store sells it doesn't mean it's the appropriate diet for your parrot.

The biggest misconception in my experience of handling and working in the parrot industry for over 17 years is that people don't know what to feed their parrot.

Parrots on a seed based diet can develop fatty liver disease among many life threatening issues.

Parrots need to eat a well balanced pellet formulated exclusively for them. There are even pellet formulas that are designed exclusively for a particular species of parrot.

In addition to the pellets the parrot needs fruits & veggies and treats that are healthy. Human food is acceptable and they can eat most everything we eat with the exception of approx ten items that are poisonous to them however they need to be eating their own food before they can be offered ours.

The diet is of utmost importance and plays a roll in not only the health of the bird but also the temperament and and its overall well being.

Parrots need a certain amount of seed in their diet ( approx 10% ) but it should not be the diet exclusively.

Lets face it we feel better when we eat better so it is the same for a parrot.

Funny coming from you Paul. You always use there, they're, and their incorrectly but then again you're not writing for an online newspaper. You're just commenting on what others write. Even more important than the spelling in this case, is the definite lack of commas, periods, and apostrophes. 'Cetain' is surely just a typo for 'certain' and you missed 'Lets' on your list. Doesn't the editor actually edit before something is published? This piece is informative but yet difficult to read.

The use of there, they're, and their incorrectly is so commonly misused...
Spell checker can not check for that. LOL I will say that the use of commas, periods, and apostrophes etc is also mostly under utilized.. As I said I hope she is not teaching the Parrots how to spell... Can she spell "BIRD BRAIN"

What's to look into? Neil Koenig was the owner. He's good friends with my cousin. My cousin toldRead More me "he couldn't make a go of it." The last time I was there was in December. The food was just ok and the service was horrible. Not one course was correct and we didn't even change anything from the menu description. Note to the waitress, the appetizer is NOT supposed to come for dessert!! And Rich is correct. The name was Buongusto's PieSano's. I hope the new owners (Lia's) stop serving Chocolate Mouse (should be Mousse) as per the sign on the Prospect Avenue side of the building.
