What’s in Your Beach Bag?

Reenactors are workaholics, always working to keep ourselves updated on the latest finds or emerging theories about our time periods, that’s why our noses are always in books, magazines or e readers.

Like most reenactors I’m never far from books, even when I’m on vacation.  I remember lounging on a beach in Cancun, Mexico sipping my rum while reading a book about Captain Henry Morgan titled Empire of Blue Water.  I glanced up from my book and saw a pirate ship sail by.  Nothing makes a book’s subject matter come alive like reading it in the locale it takes place.

Even when I take a break from non-fiction reading, I usually read historical based fiction. I’ll even confess to reading the occasional romance novels with titles like A Pirate’s Pleasure (Yes, that is a real book title).

This coming summer I look forward to reading Pirates of Baltimore (That’s County Cork, Ireland not Maryland) and Pirate Hunter of the Caribbean:  The Adventurous Life of Captain Woodes Rogers.  And if I’m really lucky I’ll be able to veg out with The Price of Freedom, the backstory of Captain Jack Sparrow.

So what’s in your beach bag?
