Merrick Jewish Centre 3rd Graders to Hold Dog Adoption Day

Third graders in the Merrick Jewish Centre Hebrew
School’s “Bet” class will host a dog adopt-a-thon to help place shelter pets in
forever homes.

The
program, coordinated with the Town of Hempstead Animal
Shelter, is scheduled for Sunday, October 27th from
10:30am-2:30pm in the Merrick Jewish Centre Parking lot at 225 Fox Blvd. in Merrick.
The Town Animal Shelter will be bringing dogs that are trained and ready
to be adopted. A wide variety of breeds, sizes and ages will be available. All
are hoping to go home to become part of a loving family.

“Each
class at the Merrick Jewish Centre has a mitzvah, or good deed, for the year,”
says Helena Eilenberg, Hebrew school principal. “Throughout the year, the
children learn about and actually do the mitzvah. Our third graders are
learning about being aware of the suffering of animals, and doing something
about it.

“Thus
far this year, the class has had a visit from educators from the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter.
They also spent an afternoon at the shelter,” says Mrs. Eilenberg. “All this
was in preparation for their first big activity, the adopt-a-thon.
