Weekend Planner: Star Gazing, Free Golf and Art Receptions

Patch's "Weekend Planner" Column lets East Meadow know what's going on for the weekend ahead.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Where/When: ; Friday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m.
Why Go: Ever curious about the stars that sit in the sky every night? This is your chance to learn more about them with astrophysicist Kevin Manning. Find out about the varying constellations and how to best view these magnificent “nightlights.”

Where/When: ; Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Why Go: Courtesy of Nassau County and County Executive Edward Mangano, the facility is offering four free hours on the driving range to get ready for the 2011 season. The range feature 60 bays and about 400 feet of distance. Besides the free golf, there will also be golf lessons, club fittings, displays, demonstrations and much more.

Where/When: ; Saturday, May 7 at 2 p.m.
Why Go: Take in all of the beauty Nassau County has to offer in this innovative photography exposition. Join other local art fans for the opening reception of this show, indulge in some refreshments and perhaps even make some new friends.

Where/When: of East Meadow; Saturday, May 7 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 8 at 2 p.m.
Why Go: With Temple Emanu-El celebrating their 24th year of community theatre, The Pirates of Penzance will be a show to remember. This comedic performance will surely keep the audience entertained.
Pricing: $18 for adults, $14 for seniors over 62 and $9 for children. Reserve tickets by calling the temple office at (516) 794-8911.
 

Where/When: ; Saturday, May 7 at 10:30 p.m.
Why Go: One of the hottest parties around, RUSH events are a go-to for local partygoers. Every week, the lounge features a different theme, entertainer or DJ to keep the crowd on its toes. Plus, admission is free for those 21 and over until 11:30 p.m.
Pricing: Free admission for those over 21 until 11:30 p.m.
