Weekend Planner: Pumpkin Carving Contest, E-Cycle and Clarke Homecoming

Patch's "Weekend Planner" column lets East Meadow know what's going on for the weekend ahead.

Where/When: ; Friday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.
Why Go: Sit back, relax and enjoy one of the library’s Friday movies. The Conspirator will be sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. Actors including James McAvoy and Kevin Kline will light up the screen at this free showing.

Where/When: ; Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.
Why Go: Poet and East Meadow resident Carol Bergman will talk about her new book, Echoes of the Heart. Bergman, who was born legally blind, engages readers with her valuable insight. Refreshments will be served.

Where/When: Town Park at Point Lookout in Lido Beach; Saturday, Oct. 15 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Why Go: Have old electronics that you want to throw out? Bring them to this Town of Hempstead sponsored program and dispose of them in a safe and free manner. They will be accepting everything from old computers, iPods, printers, televisions, cell phones and more. E-Cycle is a fantastic way to get rid of unwanted electronic goods without harming the local environment.

Where/When: Hicks Nurseries in Westbury; Saturday, Oct. 15 – judging begins at 11 a.m.
Why Go: Check out talented cravers from the local area as they show off their works this Saturday at Hicks. Judges will give prizes in categories including best decorated and best carved, among many others. This contest is an interesting take on a classic fall activity – something that will be sure to entertain everyone!

Where/When: ; Saturday, Oct. 15 – game starts at 2 p.m.
Why Go: The Rams will be celebrating their annual homecoming game as they take on Oyster Bay at home. Come cheer on the home team in this community tradition and enjoy the halftime show courtesy of the school’s students. A fun Saturday outing for local Rams fans!
