"I thought I was losing my mind, then the china started rattling," Lodise said. "I had to ask my daughter if the house was shaking...yikes. I hope everyone's nerves are straight now."

John McCaffrey was enamored by what was happening.

"We were at home (me, my daughter Samantha and my son Timmy) and I was in my office and my chair was shaking," McCaffrey said. "I looked at the wall and the wall was shaking. Next, I looked at the picture on the wall and it was moving. I jumped up and went into the living room and said to the kids, "We're having an earthquake." They were like yeah this is nuts. I went back to my office and felt it again. Then the news came on and confirmed it. How cool was that!"

In an East Meadow Patch Facebook poll, 12 of the 17 people said they felt the quake, while the other five say that they didn't feel a thing.

Hicksville resident Patricia Zambudo Servidio was driving with her friend and their two 16-year-olds in Woodbury when they felt the effect of the quake.

"When the earthquake hit, we turned and yelled at our 16-year-old daughters to "stop shaking the truck,"' she said. "I got a call from my husband, who works in Jericho, that his building was swaying and the buildings in front of Waldbaum's in Jericho (where he works) were evacuated. It was a strange feeling."
