UPDATE 4 p.m: Some East Meadow Residents Still Without Power

Between East Meadow and Salisbury, 527 customers are still affected.

Although Irene came and went, many people in East Meadow are still cooking on the grill and taking cold showers.

Although LIPA said that this is the Island's biggest power outage in 26 years, there are still more than 189,000 people without power.

On Sunday, an estimated 2,400 East Meadow residents were powerless, and 1,400 residents were affected in Salisbury as well. At press time, those numbers have decreased to 486 in East Meadow and 41 in Salisbury.

While there was no definitive time for power restoration, according to Michael Hervey, company head, "The history has been that we pick up a significant amount of customers in the first 24 to 36 hours and I expect that to be the case here," he said.
