Lottery Announces 10K Winner from East Meadow

The New York Lottery recently announced the name of an East Meadow woman who won $10,000 in the Mega Millions drawing held on Dec. 23, 2011.

The winner, Jessica Verdon, purchased the winning ticket at the Great Jade Deli & Grocery at 146-02 34th Ave. in Flushing.

She's not the only East Meadow resident that has won big. In fact, in the past year, six others were rewarded with big paydays.

The first winner, Gerard Catalanello, from a Feb. 12 Powerball drawing. The ticket was purchased at Yogi Krupa, located on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow. Ann Capozzi at the J & R Discounts at 832 Carman Ave. in Westbury and won in the $10K drawing on Oct. 18, 2011. The third winner, Maxwell Weber, purchased the winning ticket at the Blossom Farms Convenience at 100 Bedford Ave. in Bellmore and won in the Oct. 26, 2011 drawing for $10K as well.

The fourth beneficiary was Jutta Yanoscik, who was after winning the drawing on Dec. 1, 2011. East Meadow resident Dennis Bartling purchased his winning ticket at Ashland Pharmacy in Brooklyn, and he in the drawing on Jan. 28.

Bartling found out that he won the $10K Powerball jackpot on Jan. 28.

Susan Machtinger's life on May 28, 2011, when she won $4 million from the New York Lottery.

"I have always told the clerk to give me the one that's going to win," Machtinger said. "I still cannot believe this has actually happened."
