Grab & Go Kids Planner: Free Crafts, Magic Lessons and a Medieval Fair

Every week, Patch will be bringing readers the best weekend activities for children in your area.

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children. Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week.

Free Crafts for Kids
Where/When: The Cupcake Corner; Saturday, Sept. 10 and Sunday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Why Go: Take the kids over to the Cupcake Corner to enjoy a free craft while parents can relax with a delicious cup of coffee. The craft changes weekly and takes about 15 to 30 minutes to complete. A great way for kids to spend a little time exercising their creativity!
Pricing: Free.
 
32nd Annual Sands Point Medieval Festival
Where/When: 127 Middle Neck Road, Port Washington; Saturday, Sept. 10 and Sunday, Sept. 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Why Go: Children will delight in all the medieval festival has to offer – from jousting, the royal court and dancing to puppet shoes and kids’ games. There will be pony rides for the little ones, as well as the chance for the kids to “fight a knight.” This fair offers something for everyone and will definitely keep the whole family entertained.
Pricing: Adults $12, children between 4 and 12 years of age $6 and children under 4 are free.
 
Free Magic Lessons
Where/When: Magic Shop in Levittown; Saturday, Sept. 10 from 7 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 11 from 5 to 6 p.m.
Why Go: Let the little tykes learn some special magic tricks… for free! This local shop offers the lessons for free to beginner students who are 10 years of age and older. All needed materials are included with the session.

Kickball Clinic
Where/When: Cure of Ars Roman Catholic Church in Merrick; Sunday, Sept. 11
Why Go: For children between the ages of three and five, this clinic will run on several Sundays throughout the early fall season. Let the kids run around, socialize and learn how to play a fun schoolyard game.

Family Sunday at the Museum
Where/When: Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn; Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m.
Why Go: Get the kids to the museum to enjoy a Sunday filled with family friendly activities. There is a docent led tour of the exhibition and a craft for children. A fantastic way to spend a day with the whole family.
Pricing: Free with museum admission.
