Former NYC Mayor Ed Koch Was Snapple Pitchman

Koch, who died Friday at 88, starred in pro-New York TV ad for Long Island beverage maker.

Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, who died early Friday at 88, was known for his ardent support of all things New York.

That includes a famous 1993 TV spot for beverage maker Snapple. The then-East Meadow company cast Koch as a pitchman for all that’s great about New York.

The ad features a Kentucky man, who wrote to the company: “Snapple is a super product, perhaps the only good that has come out of New York.”

Cue up Koch. He arrived at the Kentucky man’s door and extolled New York’s virtues, from the corn beef sandwich to home of the first elevator and America’s first capitol.

“Made from the best stuff on Earth,” was Snapple's tagline. It’s true of Koch too.
