UPDATE 11 p.m: East Meadow Residents Stuck Without Power

Hurricane Irene is winding down, although she left a lasting impact on the area.

The rain has subsided, and the winds have calmed down a bit, but many in East Meadow are still without power.

According to the LIPA Storm Center Outage Map, as of 11 p.m. Sunday, over 2,400 East Meadow customers are still without power. One area of concern include the Barnum Woods district east of Merrick Avenue, where LIPA says that more than 750 customers are powerless.

The area near Front Street and East Meadow Avenue has power issues as well, as almost 750 customers are waiting for their service to be restored as well.

More than 750 customers are awaiting LIPA's response east of Newbridge Road before the Wantagh Parkway. LIPA is also dealing with the power outage at Newbridge Road and Hempstead Turnpike, where police is directing traffic.

As far as Salisbury goes, as of 11 p.m., more than 1,400 customers are without power there as well, with the main area of concern being north of Eisenhower Park towards Old Country Road.

According to the map, LIPA is still "assessing the condition" of the outages in both East Meadow and Salisbury.
