East Meadow Walmart to Beef Up Security After Stabbing Incident

The store has plans to increase patrols and possibly add more lighting in the parking lot.

After a woman was robbed of her pocketbook and stabbed while loading bags into her car Tuesday night, an assistant manager of the East Meadow Walmart told Patch the company has plans to increase security and possibly add more lighting in the parking lot.

Police said an African American man approached the woman at 10:35 p.m., grabbed her pocketbook and stabbed her in the left arm with an "unknown object" before fleeing in a red car.

The 42-year-old victim was taken to an area hospital by police ambulance, where she was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

Currently, two security guards patrol the parking lot in marked vehicles, according to the assistant manager, who asked not to be identified. It is unclear when the beefed up patrols will go into effect.

The man is described as six-foot-tall with a stocky build. Detectives request anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.

Walmart is open seven days a week until 11:30 p.m.
