Rose Fuger Reflects on Food Network Appearance

The "A Taste of Home" owner appeared on "Sweet Genius" on Thursday night.

For East Meadow resident and "" owner Rose Fuger, seeing herself on television is unlike anything she's ever experienced.

"It’s kind of hard to watch yourself on television," Fuger, who a former president, joked.

Fuger on The Food Network's "Sweet Genius" on Thursday night. The segment that aired was filmed at A Taste of Home in January, although Fuger could not speak to anyone about the appearance because she signed a non-disclosure agreement with the network.

Sweet Genius," hosted by Ron Ben-Isreal, consists of four professional pastry chefs, who compete in three dessert challenges. At the end of the hour-long program, the winner is named a "sweet genius" and given a $10,000 cash prize. Fuger did not win in the end, but she said having the cameras in her business was a surreal experience.

"The cameras are right in your face every minute that you are baking," Fuger said. "You can’t get away from them. They follow you around."

She also hopes that the television appearance helps with her customer base.

"We’re hoping it brings in business," Fuger added. "It was a tough selection process, and I had to go on three interviews before we even got selected."

What did you think of Rose Fuger's television cameo? Tell us in the comments.

I think Rose did great. I was rooting for her. Even if I didn't know who she was I would have rooted for her. She seemed the most sincere of the four. Good Job!

I think Rose is RUDE and the service in this place is bad! YOu ask for something....it takes so long and they give you a problem. I would rather go to Dortoni!
Ro June 13, 2012 at 03:27 PM
@T - you are kidding right?!? The service in Rose's shop is great, they are all friendly and accomodating. Go to Dortoni, and enjoy the overpriced, too sweet treats, that will keep the line shorter at Taste of Home. I don't know Rose personally but she always seems quite friendly when I have stopped in.

Dear T.... Everyone is entitled to a bad day ..at "Home" . But if you give them another chance I would bet that you will find them as great and accomodating as my family and Ro and Christine have. And that you will never stray away again.

Well I DO KNOW Rose personally and she is so very far from being rude. She has great people skills and is extremely patient with her customers and never pushy or rude. I speak as a customer first and then as a friend. There is no way that any of her actions can be taken that way. And as always, I sign my name and face to MY STATEMENTS.

I think Rose and her staff do a wonderful job as a baker, business person and a community activist. She is ALWAYS friendly and helpful. Give them another chance, you may have had a bad day.

Did you see the show? I did and I thought she was creative with the ingredients as well as the theme. I was not impressed with the guy who toasted a hot dog bun and drizzled chocolate on it- I could do that- does that make me a sweet genius? nope. Kudos for Rose for having the guts to try. Don't judge until you've walked in someone else's shoes-
