Paul Tonna Named NuHealth Foundation Chairman

Tonna will serve a two-year term.

Executive Director of the NuHealth Foundation, Deidra Parrish-Williams, announced that Paul Tonna has been named chairman of the NuHealth Foundation board of directors, which is the philanthropic part of the NuHealth System.

"I couldn't be more enthusiastic about having Paul Tonna lead the NuHealth Foundation board," Parrish-Williams said. "He has been a champion of Long Island's poor and disenfranchised for many years. He is also an exceptional leader, businessman and humanitarian who understands the complexities and the needs of the healthcare industry."

Arthur Gianelli, the president and CEO of the NuHealth System, joined Parrish-Williams in welcoming Tonna to his new position.

"I am delighted with the board's decision," Gianelli said. "Paul understands the vital role this health system plays on Long Island and his unique skills will be a great help to the Foundation."

Tonna serves as Molloy College's executive director for the Energeia Partnership, and he is also the CEO of Professional Evaluation Medical group, which is based in Hicksville. He served in the Suffolk County Legislature from 1994-2005, including a stint as presiding officer from 2000-2002.

He is an adjunct professor of theology and religious studies at St. John's University, and he serves as the Vice Chairman of the Long Island Regional Planning Board. Tonna's other distinctions include serving as a trustee of the Long Island State Parks & Recreation Commission and Public Trustee of the Stationary Engineer's Industry Stabilization Fund. Tonna is a board member of the following organizations: Health & Welfare Council of LI, Advanced Energy Research & Technology Center, The Long Island Index and Erase Racism's College of Advisors. Tonna serves as a founding director of Empire National Bank and as a commissioner of the South Huntington Water District.

Paul Tonna resides in Huntington, with his wife Carol and children Peter, Paul, John, Grace, Mary, Carolann, Joseph and Lucy.
