Paolo Telese Honored for Cooking Excellence

The Merrick resident and East Meadow Chamber of Commerce resident was honored at an awards ceremony on April 2.

When people think of Paolo Telese, they think of

The slice of Italy in North Bellmore offers contemporary Italian dishes including pasta, steak and pizza, and for his excellence in the kitchen, Telese was honored as Chef of the Year at the annual Long Island Critic Food Awards on April 2.

Telese, a Merrick resident who is also a member of the , was happy to receive the honor, which was a bit of a surprise to him.

“Did I expect it? No, not at all,” he told the East Meadow Herald. “I’m very excited.”

From the East Meadow Herald:

Paolo, who lives in Merrick, grew up in New York and spent most summers in Abrutzi, Italy, where his parents have a second home. His roots are reminiscent in his dishes.

Elisa's is open from 4 p.m. to close on Monday through Saturday, and from 2 p.m. to close on Sunday.

"At Elisa’s, you get all that Italian heritage right here on Long Island," says the restaurant's website. "Coming together to create one extraordinary dining experience that’s second-to-none. We thank you for joining us, and we look forward to your next visit. Don’t be a stranger!"

Comment hahah- was there Sunday night...called at 645 to see if any tables and was told to come down in 40 minutes...showed up at 730....low and behold I feel as the forgotten table...apps were fine, pasta was OK, then huge delay at what seemed to be our forgotten entrees at 820-830.... By this time all other and I mean everyone else was out of the resteraunt except me and my girl friend....all workers were gettign ready for close it seemed and were looking at us like we had two heads... Meals finally came out...veal cutlet parm ehhhh cheese on top please not 3 little strips, showed it was rushed...and veal was OK...the other dish grilled swordfish with a lemon vinegrette. Funny because it came out as a barley seared, no grilling involved piece of plain sword fish without any sauce, dressing etc... At that point being the only ones in the place, is it worth it to have them reprepare or send back...I think not... Never the less...didnt stick around for desert, and probably would not rush back.. We were excited for the dinner, and then truly dissapointed...

I disagree with Michael 100%. This was the best dining experience my wife and I have ever had. Anyone who says otherwise must know nothing about food, or is probably a Jet's fan. In Michael's case, it sounds like both are the case.

Who is this kid writing this review, what a joke??!?!? My mother and I went ad had one of the best meals of the year. Lamb skewers-amazing, Lasagne Della Nonna-sooo good and the Fileto di Manzo was grilled to perfection. Disregard this kid above and give Elisa's a shot.
Pedro June 05, 2012 at 07:59 PM
Hmmm Michael, being a regular here I have never even seen swordfish on the menu so you must just be TROLLING here... You obviously have never been to Paolo Talese before so please keep your uneducated comments to yourself! So instead of blogging about your fake girlfriend and your imaginary swordfish, go blog about Tim Tebow and his punt coverage...
Michael June 05, 2012 at 08:09 PM
Actually Pedro I do apologize as no TROLLING going on, and it was the Salmon so apologies for my confusion. As for the sword fish and you being a regular there, you should know they do have specials on a daily basis....hmmm....you must go there often. Joe and Pedro its funny because I am a Jets fan and damn proud, the way you wrote this, is as if you are a employee of the establishment, and best dining experience ever, spare me please...Where this Jets reference comes from is beyond me but so be it.. I was recommended to go there as I stated and was disappointed... More than the food the service was what was really poor, the food was OK, just clearing that up...pretty sad however that there was no pride taken in the dish and the sauce etc… was left off the fish nor grilled. Never the less, I have never in my life posted a bad review, and may not ever again...I simply saw this in the Patch and since I was there 2 days ago, may as well clear the air... So again since you guys must work for Zagat or some sort of food review, you guys do and should know everything...Truth be told you two are probably also Met fans never the less, so what is your point…. J E T S JETS JETS JETS

It's guys like Michael that can hurt small business owners here in East Meadow. A real shame they let guy's like this tell fibs about their fake dates at restaurants they have never been to. TROLL

I also have gotten to know Paolo over the years. His character is second to none. To challenge his work ethic on a public forum is way out of line Michael. You think you know what you're talking about? Whatdya say we settle this today? I'll be on the 6 o'clock to Ronkonkoma outa Penn Station today. Come see me near track 6.
Paolo June 05, 2012 at 08:50 PM
Enough is Enough.... 1. First off let me say that we were open until 11 pm when commenter "Michael" says he and his girlfriend were the only ones in the establisment. 2. We serve many culinary educated customers who know how swordfish should be prepared and I doubt "Michael" is a master chef. 3. Come try us out! There is no doubt in my mind I can make you change your mind "Michael" Mention "Paolo is #1" at the door and get a free appetizer.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Let's keep this civil, and please refrain from using inappropriate language. Congratulations Paolo!

I eat here often and have never had a bad meal. I have taken many friends here and they always want to go back! I love this restaurant. The service is always good and people are always friendly. Mistakes happen and maybe for some reason Michael's order got messed up, but that is certainly NOT the norm. I have been here on a Saturday night when the place is packed and if they are running behind schedule, they are always apologetic and go out of their way to get you seated. Once they brought out numerous free appetizers to the people waiting at the bar. They look out for their customers and the food is fantastic!

yikes! i was gonna slooowly back away, but .... we have had many family event parties there, Elisas is kind of special to us. We have eaten dinner there many many times as well. The food is always delicious, the service is always great, and we are always made to feel completely comfortable and at home.

Never been and will never go to a place that you fools frequent. Trying to bash Michael because of HIS opinion and HIS dining experience. Joe, Frank, Perdro are you guys even old enough to order a drink at Elisa's? You 3 sound like your all about 13 years old. "oh michael must be a jets fan.. blah blah blah." You think its great, he thinks its not, big deal. I moved out of east meadow because of people like you. It must be the east meadow water. Get a grip on life and reality. People have different opinions, welcome to planet earth.

Ganci, do you want people to comment on your articles or not? You would think a Liberal like you would not take away a blogger's right to an opinion! Shaking my Head :(
Ray Farino June 06, 2012 at 05:17 PM
I agree with Brian. Apparently every Tom, Dick, and Harry that lives in their mother's basement in East Meadow decided to join in on this comment section. What a bunch of self-righteous little crybabies we have here. This is an article about a resteraunt, not politics. @ Pedro-- what is with the capitalization of the world "liberal?" Are you that obsessed with the democratic party that when trying to slander them, you in effect are giving them proper noun status? SMH indeed!!!!
John Russo June 06, 2012 at 05:33 PM
Ray and Brian should be ashamed of themselves. The purpose of this article is to give glory to the great Paulo Telese, culinary master and true patriot. This is a man who has touched the live's of East Meadow-ians far and wide. In your efforts to bicker and argue on comment sections, you only serve to diminish the crowning achievement of Paolo's career (I mean the guy won the Long Island Critic Food Award here!!!). Brian, it does not surprise me that you do not reside in East Meadow... anyone who does would know that Paolo is a saint and his epic culinary feats should not be tainted by your childish antics.
Michael Ganci (Editor) June 06, 2012 at 06:01 PM
The comments section in this article is being closed. This is not meant for petty arguments. Thanks so those who commented, and thanks for reading Patch. Mike
