New Subway Restaurant to Open in East Meadow Plaza

The owner of the eatery said that he plans to open in two weeks.

A new Subway restaurant is set to open in East Meadow Plaza this month. Employees and business owners said that they welcome the eatery to the complex, which is filled with vacant buildings.

Tommy, the owner of Subway at 1874 Front St., said that he is planning to open in two weeks.

"Hopefully it will done by then," he said. "I heard that this building was closed for years."

Matt Dolan, owner of the nearby Wing Zone, said that the space housed an Italian ice shop.

"I think that it closed around two years ago," he said.

Even though a new eatery will open in the plaza, Dolan said that he is not worried.

"Anything that brings more traffic here is good," he said. "Us and Subway sell two totally different items. If people want wings they are going to come here."

Andrew Ghirardi, general manager of East Meadow Lanes, said that all the businesses in the area can benefit from the new opening.

"I like Subway personally and it gives people in this area more options since the other Subway is on Hempstead Turnpike," he said. "Money is being lost with all these vacant stores and the Subway can bring more traffic to the mall and can give us more exposure."
