New Subway Restaurant to Open in East Meadow Plaza

The owner of the eatery said that he plans to open in two weeks.

A new Subway restaurant is set to open in East Meadow Plaza this month. Employees and business owners said that they welcome the eatery to the complex, which is filled with vacant buildings.

Tommy, the owner of Subway at 1874 Front St., said that he is planning to open in two weeks.

"Hopefully it will done by then," he said. "I heard that this building was closed for years."

Matt Dolan, owner of the nearby Wing Zone, said that the space housed an Italian ice shop.

"I think that it closed around two years ago," he said.

Even though a new eatery will open in the plaza, Dolan said that he is not worried.

"Anything that brings more traffic here is good," he said. "Us and Subway sell two totally different items. If people want wings they are going to come here."

Andrew Ghirardi, general manager of East Meadow Lanes, said that all the businesses in the area can benefit from the new opening.

"I like Subway personally and it gives people in this area more options since the other Subway is on Hempstead Turnpike," he said. "Money is being lost with all these vacant stores and the Subway can bring more traffic to the mall and can give us more exposure."

Do you think that Subway will be a positive addition to East Meadow and the plaza? Tell us in the comments below.

To all the anti SONIC knuckleheads and NIMBYs: WAKEUP.... SONIC should be given a chance.. Build it bigger and build it now....

This was a great spot - plenty of parking, that particular store has very high visibility and the surrounding businesses should give them their initial boost while they develop foot traffic from passing drivers.

No mention of Bagelicious which has been there for years, or Margarita's Cafe, also a durable business?

I am not too happy about this. We already have one on north jerusalem unfortunately. A terrible way to give more fast food to our growing generations and stuffing their stomach with more processed meats and questionable toppings. We should promote buying fresh and eating healthier. SMH

To Stuart H: Then do not patronize it.. PERIOD.......... It has many healthy style choices to select from......... Like I said do not go there.... PERIOD...

Wait a minute. It may be a mom and pop kind of venture. You know some people scrimp and save just to open a franchise they always wanted. So do not knock it for that reason.......

Went there today for lunch and unhappy with the service the clerk asked what were the 5$ speicals and he told me to look up at the menu he could have told me what they were. How rude. asked for a hot chicken sandwich and got one ice cold. And since when are all the coldcuts pre-sliced what the heck is that.
joe February 01, 2013 at 10:31 PM
sorry i asked the clerk what the speicals were.
paul February 02, 2013 at 01:07 AM
To Joe: Guess you have not been to a subway for some time. The preslicing is called portion control... It is done everywhere.....

Joe, when you went in February, it was all $5 specials. Did you really want him to name all the sandwiches that were on sale? Wouldn't it be easier to look at the menu and decide on the sandwich and then ask if it was $5? And your sandwich was probably cold because of the fresh veggies you put on it.
