New Dry Cleaning Store to Fill Former Blockbuster Building

Business owners and employers are excited about the new addition to the East Meadow Mall.

A new dry cleaning store is set to open in the former Blockbuster space located at 1959 Front St. Business owners and employees in the area said that they are excited for its arrival.

"I hear that it is going to be an organic cleaners," Barbara, an employee at Bagel Biz said. "Everyone is happy because it can bring more customers and business to all of us," she said.

Her co-worker, Tim, agreed.

"I have been here seven years and I have seen a pizza store, the Blockbuster, a cell phone store and a shoe store close," he said.

The new business will be in the shopping center known as the East Meadow Mall which houses Pathmark and Marshalls. There are a number of storefronts in the center that remain vacant.

"As a businessman you don't want to see a lot of empty stores around you," Andy Oh, owner of Photo Market said.

He said that he is looking forward to seeing the former Blockbuster storefront filled.

"I am very optimistic about the cleaners," Oh said. "A new service or business will bring us all new business."

Seems like by the size of the location it will be doing walk-ins as well as possibly work from off site cleaners. I wonder what variances they requested to open this new business.....????? As quoted in the article "A new service or business will bring us all new business.". Gee, I hope Sonic gets another chance at opening. They too will bring new business... Oh I forgot, too many misfits in the BZA and a club owner that is dense from the neck up.... and let us not forget a want to be politician that made sure she was heard stating nothing of fact.... or the I found a paper bag in a parking lot at the Deer Park location submitted as evidence as if he was in a court of law by showing some debris that was blown around....

There are already two cleaners within walking distance. One behind this location by the Chase Bank and one by the car wash. A good and reasonable family restaurant would serve the community better than another cleaners.

i also hope that a brand new drycleaners of this size doesn't wind up closing a couple of the smaller ones around town.

To Gary: I agree regarding the other dry cleaning establishments....... Before it was a Blockbuster it was a "Pancake Cottage".... Gone but not forgotten.... ;o)

My family loved "Pancake Cottage"! It was a great little restaurant for Saturday mornings. It was our own little version of IHOP. Of course, it was about 25 years ago..right?

How about knocking that entire facilty down because it's disgusting. It looks the same since the 80's. Then adding new and exciting businesses after pathmark gets an make over!

How about Crackmark aka Pathmark leave and take the homeless with it first!!! and I agree with Paul.. Sonic or a Dairy Queen or a Nice Mom and Pop Pancake Cottage style place~!

Organic dry cleaners...What a laugh! Ten years from now when they are long gone a toxic plume will be discovered in the ground water and covered up by by the corrupt politicians who turn a blind eye to these types of businesses.

With all due respect Frank T... What can Chris and what can we all do to improve the Ghetto... people suggest a Sonic, it gets shut down for "traffic".. we have homeless hanging around in park, in which the rent a cops do nada.. they move to the abandoned buisnesses and crackmark parking lot.. Kate Murray could care less about us.. if it was her block in Levittown she will do something but unless its a photo opportunity, then she doesnt care...

To Brent and Chris, support local shops in East Meadow. There are many excellent restaurants in EM such as Taste of Portugal, YUZU, Sacramone's and Ayhan's pita express to name a few. A chain fast food joint is not going to magically change EM. I agreed with all of you that the town should have allowed Sonic to open in that location but we are dealing with a corrupt system and should not rely on Murray, Mangano or Norma. In regard to the homeless situation every town has that problem not just EM. I am not sure if the cops can do anything if they are not breaking the law. I did see a cop take a homeless person away by the old Pearl store recently so the cops will help if we speak up. If you see a problem with the homeless call the cops. When it's time to vote get rid of Mangano, Murray and Norma.

it's not that the one Sonic saves the day, it is that by having the Sonic, hopefully Pearl paint can find a tenant besides the October Halloween store, hopefully Modell's and Home Depot stay happy.(wasn't there rumors of Home Depot moving to Levittown to the old Caldor,... imagine losing Home Depot! ughhhh). Maybe then something would move in across the street in the now closed Zorn's and 24 hour convenience. Business's like to be where other business's are, even if they are competitors.

Nothing is affordable. But why do I want to see all those crackheads and homeless people hanging aroung Eisnehower and Pathmark all day everyday. Please who want to go to pathmark at night.... a bit scary. If pathmark was new and clean and you didn't have to walk through that lobby of filth that looks exactly the same since I was 2, then maybe people would actually food shop in pathmark. I would rather drive to bethpage if I need to go to a pathmark!!!!

It's not a question of foot traffic. Home Depot and Modell's attract a lot of customers and there is plenty of parking space in that location. This should be enough to attract a good tenant to the Pearl location but the landlord is either not working with prospective tenants on renovations or he is not actively searching for new tenants. The roof has been leaking for years and after the hurricane some windows were broken. It could also be that the real estate taxes are prohibitive.

That location seems too big for a local dry cleaner. Are they going to be a wholesale dry cleaner and increase traffic on Front Street??????????? I also vote for Pancake Cottage.

A dry cleaner this size will cause pollution problems weather organic or chemical.

hey everyone! I had mentioned a while ago about someone opening an IHOP. I have yet to see one of those close down since i was a little girl. It is very family orientated. It brings everyone out to EAT at all hours of the day! It will bring jobs and children love to go out for pancakes! the nearest locations are: IHOP - Hicksville on Old Courntry Road, Freeport on Sunrise Hwy and West Hempstead on Hemp. Tpke.
