New Bakery to Open in East Meadow

A new bakery is coming to East Meadow this summer.

Bread Box Bakery Cafe will open in the former Bagel Bakery building at 500 Newbridge Road, which has been vacant for about a year.

The family-owned business will be operated by mother and son, Deborah and Andrew Benoit of Deer Park. The two anticipate the eatery opening in August.

Deborah Benoit has worked in bakeries for the last 26 years.

"I am hoping that everything I learned helps me in my business," the 52-year-old said. "I am very happy, but scared."

She said that she and her 23-year-old son, Andrew, both share the love of baking.

"We both bake and I want to leave him something when I am not here," Benoit said.

The East Meadow community seems very excited about the opening, according to Benoit.

"The feedback has been very good," she said. People have been coming by to talk to us. I am investing everything that I got here. I am putting my heart and soul into this."
