Nearby residents will have to wait a little while longer to begin shopping at the new Walmart Neighborhood Market.

The grand opening of the 49,395 square foot grocery store was planned for Wednesday morning but has been delayed due to last-minute permitting issues, which are common, according to Bill Wertz, Director of Communications at Walmart.

“The new grand opening date is not yet confirmed, however we look forward to bringing our fresh and affordable groceries to local residents within a few days," Wertz said.

The arrival of Walmart Market at the vacant Walbaums at 3335 Hempstead Turnpike was first announced on Patch in April of 2012.

The store will be open seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
