The popular clothing store has closed on Merrick Road

The popular clothing store American Eagle Outfitters has closed shop in Merrick, according to a sign on the front door.
"This AE store is closed," the sign reads at the 1980 Merrick Rd. location. "Find the nearest AE store and all looks you love at AE.com."
It's unclear when and why owners decided to leave Merrick. American Eagle officials did not immediately return calls for comment. When Patch tried to call the number for the Merrick location, an automated message said the line had been disconnected.
