Muscle Maker Grill Expected to Open Friday

The East Meadow location will mark the fifth on Long Island.

Muscle Maker Grill is expected to open Friday in the Retro Fitness shopping center on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow.

The new restaurant will replace Sarku Japan at 2565 Hempstead Turnpike, which closed in July.

The East Meadow location will mark the fifth on Long Island; other locations include Merrick, Long Beach, Huntington Station and Amityville.

Muscle Maker Grill was founded in 1995 by Rod Silva, a fitness enthusiast who wanted to offer people a nutritious alternative to fast food restaurants.

A new, "Lighter Side" menu offers salads and wraps for under 400 calories. Heart healthy soups and "Fit Salads" are also available, like the Lean & Mean Cheeseburger Salad and the Mardi Gras Cajun Grilled Chicken Salad. Vegetarian, carb-free and gluten-free meals are also offered.
