Mangano to Promote Hurricane Relief at Cheeburger Cheeburger

Farmingdale eatery will host gathering on Thursday.

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano plans to share a hearty meal with those willing to help support Hurricane Sandy victims.

Mangano is promoting an event at Farmingdale's Cheeburger Cheeburger Thursday to help raise funds for victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Cheeburger Cheeburger, at 228 Airport Plaza Boulevard in Farmingdale, will donate 20 percent of each check from the day’s receipts to the Nassau Hurricane Recovery Fund (NHRF) to benefit victims of the storm.

Th benefit event will run from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mangano plans to visit at 1 p.m. to join in the effort.

“There are too many Nassau residents who are still suffering from the impact of Hurricane Sandy,” Mangano said. “While our partners in government develop Federal and State programs to assist residents, the Nassau Hurricane Recovery Fund is here to help people in partially rebuilding their lives.”

Mangano said he is hopeful the proceeds will provide some peace of mind to those in need. Nassau residents lost not only home and property but also income as destruction from the storm closed roads and businesses for days afterward.

The NHRF is run by an all-volunteer Committee, which is chaired by the Rev. Kevin Smith, Chaplain for Nassau County’s Volunteer Fire Department. The Committee includes Chaplains from the Nassau County Police Department including Rev. Gerard Gordon; Rev. Joseph D’Angelo; Rabbi Barry Dov Schwartz; Rabbi Abraham Lefkowitz; and Bishop Robert Harris. Contributions can be made to the NHRC, c/o Nassau County Police Department, Room 216, 1490 Franklin Avenue, Mineola, NY 11501.
