International Deli Closes in East Meadow

The eatery that has been in East Meadow for more than 20 years shuttered last week.

After serving the East Meadow community for more than 20 years, International Deli closed its doors last week.

An eviction notice from the Nassau County Sheriff's Department was posted on the window of the delicatessen.

Nearby business owners and employees said they were saddened by the closing.

Barbara Ingargiola of Pimp That Pooch Grooming, located in the same strip mall as the eatery, said that the business shutting down is unfortunate.

"They were very nice people and we always went and got coffee from them," she said. "It's very sad."

Josh, owner of Bagelicious, said that it's hard for business owners to stay afloat these days.

"The cost of doing business is so much, the merchandise, the rent and utilities," he said. "For someone to own a business working 70 to 80 hours a week makes it hard to make a living."

Ingargiola said that she hopes to see another business open in the property soon.

"I would like to see something like a Mommy and Me or something beneficial to the community," she said. "We don't need another food place or something that will contradict other places in the business center."
