High Property Taxes on Former Hooters Property Scares Potential Tenants

The property formerly belonging to Hooters, located at 1714 Hempstead Turnpike, remains vacant.

According to Doug Bomzer, the property broker from Sabre Real Estate, there's been plenty of interest. The stalling point is that the tenant would have to pay $120,000 per year in property taxes, which is about half the cost of rent.

That number usually rises 2.5 to 3 percent per year, Bomzer added.

"We're trying to work with the town," Bomzer said. "We'll see what happens."

Those interested in the property have ranged from urgent care to restaurants. There's been some inquiries about using the space for medical offices as well, he said.
