Fuego Picante Opens in East Meadow

The new eatery, located at 2367 Hempstead Turnpike, opened on Friday.

A new Mexican restaurant/bar has opened in East Meadow. Fuego Picante, located at 2367 Hempstead Turnpike, is now open for business.

"It's very exciting," General Manager Michael Landesberg said. "We celebrated our grand opening on Friday."

The eatery, which is owned by Singh Hospitality Group, is located in the property that once housed Kansas City Smokehouse.

Kansas City Smokehouse was open at the location for around five months before it closed. It replaced which was also open for less than a year. The property is adjacent to a Pearle Vision and a vacant building that once housed a Prudential Real Estate.

"We know that this is a tough location and we are hoping it does well," Landesberg said. "Singh Hospitality owns about 10 restaurants on Long Island and we have been doing this for 25 years."

Landesberg said that Fuego Picante serves traditional Mexican delights such as fajitas and empanadas, as well as BBQ items.

"We also have some of the best margaritas and sangria," he said. "Everything is homemade and fresh and we serve vegan and gluten-free items."

Landesberg said that the community has been very receptive to the new restaurant.

"It's been very busy and we have had a lot of positive feedback and support," he said. "It's been a good start."

Dale, great review. I may have to try out Fuego Picante after all. I do hope they do well and stay open for a long time.

Thanx, Frank. Guess the paragraphs I made for clarity don't "take" here. I hope you do check out the restaurant; I was pleasantly surprised. Too bad the Groupon is no longer available; that was a great deal! I am also looking for Margarita's coupons; thanx for the tip!

Now closed!Closed in East Meadow: Fuego Picante Monday February 17, 2014 1:07 PM By Joan Reminick Fuego Picante in East Meadow served barbecue and Mexican cuisine. (May 4, 2013) (Credit: Johnny Simon) Fuego Picante, a Mexican barbecue restaurant on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow, is now closed. Having gone through a recent change in chef and menu, it was the most recent in a series of Singh Hospitality Group-owned dining spots to founder in the same space. Its predecessors were Kansas City Smokehouse, RUB BBQ, Long Fin, BeSi, Ruby's Famous BBQ and Louis & Marxx. The company's president, Harendra Singh, said that while the restaurant was doing all right, the rent for the site “didn’t make sense economically.” The inevitable question: Did he think the site was jinxed? “You can call it jinxed,” Singh said. “You can call it a bad location. It certainly didn’t work out for us.” Tags: Closings , East Meadow , Mexican , BBQ

I'm disappointed to hear this. I kept meaning to return and just didn't get a chance. The food and service were excellent. Maybe the rents are just too astronomical for any business owner starting out...or the damn location is simply jinxed. Too bad.
