Former Martial Arts School Remains Vacant

The storefront on Hempstead Turnpike has remained vacant for about a year.

Hempstead Turnpike has had its share of empty storefronts this year. However, some business did not close due to economic hardship, but have moved on to bigger and better things.

Serra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, formerly located at 2554 Hempstead Turnpike and currently owned by Matt Serra, famed MMA fighter and former Ultimate Fighting Championship Welterweight Champion, moved down the road to a much larger location in Levittown about a year ago.

Since then, the storefront that housed Serra's former East Meadow location has remained vacant amid the hustle and bustle of the busy commercial highway.

George, the landlord of the property, said that no one is currently showing any interest in the location, but considering the fact that it is situated on a prime traffic vein such as Hempstead Turnpike, it should only be a matter of time before it's snatched up.

"The store is 1,250 square feet," he said. "The interior is currently just one big open space. There's also a bathroom and a basement. The rent we're asking is for about $2,800 a month."

Anyone interested in inquiring about renting this property should call (516) 223-6200.
