Though residents welcomed new businesses to East Meadow this past year, they said goodbye to many, some of which served the community for decades.
Here are seven businesses that closed in East Meadow in 2013:
- Sweet Karma, formerly located at 550 East Meadow Avenue, served the community for 10+ years before relocating to Plainview this past summer.
- Pathmark, formerly located at 1897 Front Street, closed in May after serving the East Meadow community for 35 years.
- Potter's Pub, formerly located at 2045 Hempstead Turnpike, served the East Meadow community for 41 years before closing in March.
- FedEx, formerly located at 2575 Hempstead Turnpike, shuttered in July.
- Dr. Munchies, formerly located at 355 Newbridge Road, closed in mid-October due to health reasons. East Meadow husband and wife Jay and Ivy Minsky made their debut in May.
- Joey B's Pizzeria, formerly located at 376 Merrick Avenue, closed in late summer. The eatery first opened in 2011.
- Sarku Japan, formerly located at 2565 Hempstead Turnpike, shuttered in July. The eatery opened in late 2012.
