Premier Care, a walk-in urgent care center that treats both adults and children, is now open in East Meadow.
The facility, one of 10 now open on Long Island, is located at 1919 Hempstead Turnpike. Open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., the facility also offers extended weekend hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Kristina Hollywood, an 11-year East Meadow resident and mom of twin 10-year-old girls, has taken her daughters to the Levittown location, where she's never had to wait long.
"The waiting area and exam rooms are clean, the staff is friendly and the doctors are excellent," Hollywood said. "It's nice to know, if needed, quality medical care is available so close to home."
Doctors are all board-certified in emergency medicine, according to Premier Care's website. X-rays, a lab for "rapid testing" of illnesses like strep throat and the flu, and equipment to treat wounds needing stitches are all on-site. The center can also administer antibiotics and IV fluids.
All major insurances are accepted. Hollywood says the co-payment is more than a regular doctor's visit. "But it beats the alternative - going to the local emergency room," she said.
