East Meadow Ready for Cinco de Mayo

Local businesses are participating in the annual holiday.

East Meadow merchants are ready to celebrate the arrival of Cinco de Mayo.

According to History.com, the celebrations "commemorates the Mexican army's 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867)."

In East Meadow, both and will be enjoying the day in their own ways.

At Moe's, the first 150 customers that show up on Saturday will receive a free t-shirt. Although the business will open its doors at 11 a.m., one employee said that customers need to arrive early.

"People get really excited," she said. "Some are going to be here as early as 9 a.m."

At Margarita's, the celebration will be more party-themed. There will be a Mariachi Band starting at 6 p.m., as well as Tequila poppers and numerous giveaways.
