East Meadow Eateries Prepare for Irene

Several restaurants are closing due to the storm.

As Hurricane Irene prepares to wreak havoc on East Meadow, several local restaurants are going on the offensive to make sure they're ready for the storm.

George Strifas, who owns the in East Meadow, says that he plans to move forward and keep the diner open on Sunday though the storm.

"As long as we have power, we're open," Strifas said. "We're just making sure there is nothing loose on the roof that can dislodge. Our windows are able to take the wind. That's not a problem."

will also remain open, but Irene could potentially alter those plans. The owner purchased a generator in case the eatery loses power.

"As of now, the plan is to remain open," Kevin, an employee of the pizzeria said. "But we'll see what happens."

Other businesses, including , will be closing their doors on Sunday.

"As of now, we're planning on not being open," Mike, a manager at Texas Roadhouse, said. "We're taking every precaution. We're going to board the building, we have backup on ice. We're ready."

will also be closed Sunday, and they are also taking steps to prevent against costly damages to the building.

"We are taking down the tarp that covers the outside bar," Chrissy, who works at Jake's, said. "We're also taking down the TV's."

Strifas said it all boils down to keeping his employees out of harm's way.

"We're just trying to keep our workers safe, in and out," Strifas said.
