East Meadow Business Reopens After Fire

We Buy Gold sustained damages due a fire that closed three businesses on Hempstead Turnpike.

Rami Abramov was in his home on New Year's Day when he got a phone call from his own business, We Buy Gold at 2240 Hempstead Turnpike.

Somebody called me from the store, I could not make out the call and I thought I was being robbed," he said.

Abramov then drove to Hempstead Turnpike and found that the street was blocked off and filled with fire trucks

"Once I saw all of that I knew," he said.

His business was damaged after a fire started at the adjacent restaurant, Spice & Curry on Jan. 1. The blaze was deemed as accidental.

Abramov reopened his storefront a few days later.

"We are up and running and we got some damage, but we are resilient," he said.

The business, which has been in East Meadow for more than three years, buys gold and silver, makes repairs and offers loans.

"We still have our customers coming in, so I am happy about this," Abramov  said. "I was devastated when the fire happened, but no one was hurt so I am OK."
