Bites Nearby: Vibrant Italian Cuisine at La Novella Ristorante

Patch explores exciting and delicious restaurants in the "Bites Nearby" Column.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, East Meadow Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

stands out among a sea of local Italian restaurants. Innovative and fresh cuisine tops the patrons’ love for the spot, along with appreciation of owner Michael Novella’s presence at the charming establishment.

The décor is serene and simple, with the main dinning room surrounded in cozy walls and furnished with classic chairs and tables. Artwork adorns the walls, making patrons fell warm and at home while enjoying the exceptional food. Tables are evenly set apart from one another, so noise from your chatty neighbors shouldn’t be an issue.

Traditional fare reigns supreme here, with fresh and homemade ingredients prevailing in all of the appetizing plates. Antipasti’s range from Calamari Fritti and Mozzarella Al Saporita to Melazane Al Salerno. Entrees cover everything, including Vitello Ortolana, Pollo Mezzaluna and Penne Alla Nona.

Don’t miss out on the seafood, as La Novella prepares a delectable Gamber Cardinale, which has sautéed shrimp, shitake mushrooms, peppers and sun dried tomatoes drizzled in sherry wine sauce. The Gnocchi Al Siena is another sure bet with its well-crafted pasta, fresh gorgonzola cheese and asparagus dip.
