Bites Nearby: All American Dishes at Majors Steak House

Patch explores exciting and delicious restaurants in the "Bites Nearby" column.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, East Meadow Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

is a gem in the local restaurant scene. Unassumingly located on East Meadow Avenue, they deliver an exceptional steak for a fair price. Patrons keep on coming back because of the properly prepared food, friendly staff and comfortable atmosphere.

With gingham clothes adorning each table and a dark wooden interior, this steak house feel slightly different than many others on Long Island. Regardless, the more relaxed vibe gives way for their food to speak for itself. Decorations reflect a sense of tradition, with old photos and some longhorns up on the walls. There is also an upstairs and downstairs section that patrons can utilize.

Meat obviously dominates the menu, with everything from hamburgers, turkey sandwiches and frankfurters to prime ribs, pork chops and New York sirloin. If you are in the mood to indulge, check out the marinated skirt steak, which is served a la stone. The filet mignon is always a sure bet, as is the chopped sirloin – prepared with perfectly cooked mushrooms and onions.

If you are looking for a dish that doesn’t have steak in it, try the sliced tomato, fresh mozzarella and basil dish – something light and tasty to start your meal with. Majors also has a few solid seafood dishes, including Maine lobster tails, seared tuna prepared with wasabi mashed potatoes and grilled Atlantic salmon. With side fixings like creamed spinach, corn on the cob, baked potatoes and homemade mashed potatoes, you will certainly leave satisfied.

Don’t forget about the delectable dessert menu that offers many homemade items such as the apple crisp, key lime pie and rice pudding. Top off that top-notch steak dinner with a slice of decadent New York style cheesecake. The wine and beer lists are simple yet appropriate, with decent selection of whites and reds.

The traditional American cuisine at Majors will delight your palette long after you leave. Get an exceptional steak, great service, comfortable environment and fantastic price without getting dressed up for dinner.
