East Meadow Voters Say Yes to 2013-14 Budget
The superintendent said that the budget represents one of the smallest increases in the district's history.
East Meadow voters took to the polls to overwhelmingly approve the 2013-14 Tuesday.
As of 10:50 p.m., the tally was 1,838 yes votes compared to 688 no votes.
The $188,239,972 budget represents a 1.83 percent increase over the previous year's budget. The amount of money collected from taxpayers would be a 2.49 increase of $131 million.
Superintendent Louis DeAngelo said that no co-curricular programs will be cut, class sizes will remain the same and there will be no layoffs in the proposed budget.
He said that the 2.49 percent increase to taxpayers is due to 16.25 percent of $80 million that has to be out into the New York State Teacher's Retirement System. The district was allowed a 5.24 percent increase.
According to DeAngelo, the 2013-14 budget represents one of the smallest budget increases in the district's history.
Incumbents Joseph Parisi, Jeffrey Rosenking and Marcee Rubinstein were also re-elected to the school board.
