Certain Athletes Need to Be Entombed Instead of Enshrined

I would have thought that pro athletes with a pierced ear would be prepared for marriage, they have bought jewelry and experienced pain. Apparently I was wrong.

It is commonly known that I don't have pet peeves, I do have whole kennels of  irratation though. And this sports item has recently creeped to the top of my food chain.

It was recently announced that former New York Giants player Amani Toomer and Roman Oben will soon be returning to football by way of MSG Varsity where the duo will assume the roles of color analysts and reporters for Friday Night Football which covers Tri-state High School football games.

My peeve is... why, why, WHY do we hire ex-athlete bad boys instead of role models for this type of job, when there are other choices? Young people watch this particular network more than some others and will grow to idolize some of the former NY sports team members that have later become sports reporters. Do we really want them emulating this guy?

You see, the former New York Giants wide receiver criticized NFL Commissioner Roger Goodall by calling him a "Nazi Getshtapo Commandant" publically, which, in my opinion, as a Jew, is like Commissioner Goodall calling Toomer a "Cotton picking N-word plantation slave" (which is just as disgusting and supremely offensive).

But this just shows that Toomer has no filter between his brain and his mouth. Toomer allegedly also cheated on his wife while with the Kansas City Chiefs with a bar maid from the 810 Zone Bar and Grill, but then allegedly tries to have his marriage annulled so he does not have to pay his ex-wife a single red cent on grounds of Fraud.

And she then is then forced to seek what turns out to be a public and very messy divorce. He said he needed "more space," so she locked him out. He said that she allegedly has had four abortions because she did not want to have children (remember there is no healthcare for birth control, but there is for Viagra. Isn't that like the government subsidising crack-cocaine for AARP members in nursing homes? But I digress).

She allegedly insisted that he was a nutcase that cheated and verbally abused her. (I keep saying "allegedly" because there was no White Bronco chase caught on You tube here). I guess when she met Mr. Right, she did not realize that his first name was "Always". And I guess she never learned that there are two things you never do while in bed with a pro athlete...which is point and laugh.

Now this is not as bad as Michael Vick or Plassico or Houston Texas defensive end Antonio Smith, who just had the Houston PD find a dead man at the bottom of his swimming pool. (Don't you just hate it when you hear of a pro athlete who goes out for a night of celebration with the boys and the next day he wakes up next to some woman that is not his wife. He can't remember her name or where she came from...or...why she's dead?)

I just wish somebody would explain to me, why we continue to keep people with volcanic magma spewing problems, low morals and even lower tolerance for being role models in the spotlight. Toomer's problems seem to all be north of his huge shoulders.

Now my dad often said that, "Normal is nothing more than a cycle on a washing machine". But with up standing, quality guys like Sean Landetta, Wayne Crebet and Ottis Anderson (all whom I have met in person, have done great things for charity and the people of New York, are upstanding citizens and were great athletes) available, I sometime feel that my sense of what is right, is a figment of my own warped imagination.

And experts say you should never verbally or physically abuse your spouse in anger. I guess Mr Toomer felt that the right time would be right after you win a Superbowl Championship. (Shame on you, dude!)
