Not Just Books: This Week at the Library

Check out the events at the EMPL this week.

While many people come to the library to use the computers or check out books, there are many usefull programs that could help you.

Here's a look at what's happening this week at the .

Monday, July 9

Find out what's happening in East Meadowwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  • 10 a.m: Pre-School Storytime for Kids Ages 3 1/2-Not in K: Havefun listening to wonderful stories and making new friends. Registration begins Monday, June 25. Birth date must be on or before 1/09.
  • 7 p.m: Cooking Around the World: A Year-long Series-Old Fashioned Ice Cream Sandwiches: Perfect easy cooking programs for family and friends to share together. There is non-refundable $10 materials fee for each person cooking – no exceptions. You will have the food to take home. Space limited. Contact PR for openings at 794-2570 ext. 560.

Tuesday, July 10

  • 11 a.m: Senior Technology- Computer Kindergarten for Adults: You may take one or all classes. Each 2-hour hands-on class has a fee of $10 (cash or check made out to East Meadow Library). Registration opens Tuesday, July 3, 9 a.m. in the Public Relations office.
  • 2 p.m: Mario and Sonic at the 2012 Olympic Games: Join us for a video game tournament on Tuesdays, July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31 at 2 p.m. in the YA Room. The Olympics are here! Compete against your friends in various Olympic sports on the Wii. Sign up starting July 2.

Wednesday, July 11

  • 1 p.m.: Loving Hands Knitting for Charity Club: Come, relax, enjoy yourself and knit for charity. Beginners welcome, supplies provided. No registration needed.
  • 7:30 p.m: Library Board Meeting: The East Meadow Public Library Board meets once a month, usually on the first Wednesday evening. All meetings are open to the public and all are welcome.

Thursday, July 12

  • 1 p.m: Chess Club: Group meets weekly downstairs at the Library. New members welcome!
  • 7:30 p.m: Young Adult- Hand Painted Rug: Design your own oval area rug using acrylic paints and assorted templates. Create a colorful accessory for your room and have fun learning new painting techniques. Please wear old clothes as paints are permanent. $2 materials fee. Registration for July programs begins June 25.

Friday, July 13

  • 1 p.m: CLASSIC FILM: Safety Last (1923): When a store clerk organizes a contest to climb the outside of a tall building, circumstances force him to make the perilous climb himself. Stars Harold Lloyd. Silent.
  • 7:30 p.m: CABARET & DESSERT: Randy Noojin as Woody Guthrie in Hard Travelin':  As an actor Randy has worked at major venues throughout the country. Now, see his acclaimed show at EMPL. Reservations open Tuesday, July 3. All reservations can be made in the Public Relations Office, online at www.eastmeadow.info, or by phone at 516-794-2570 ext. 560.
