Huey Lewis and the News Rocks Lakeside Theatre

Nearly 20,000 county residents flocked to see iconic pop/rock band.

Approximately 20,000 Nassau County residents flooded the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre at Eisenhower Park last Saturday to listen to the sounds of Huey Lewis and the News, according to county executive Ed Mangano.

Huey Lewis marked the 30th anniversary of the band's hit album "Sports" with hits like “The Heart of Rock & Roll,” “Heart & Soul,” “I Want a New Drug,” “Walking on a Thin Line” and "If This Is It.”

The show was part of the county's free summer concert series.

Much of the programming at the Lakeside Theatre is made possible through the Nassau County Hotel/Motel Proceeds Grant, which are proceeds from taxes on hotel and motel rooms in Nassau County, Mangano said.

Nassau County has received more than $10 million since 2006 from the Hotel/Motel Proceeds Grant, which has also assisted the county in historic building restoration and other cultural enhancements.

Concert goers were encouraged to make a contribution to the Nassau Hurricane Recovery Fund, which continues to help residents severely impacted by Sandy.
