East Meadow Resident Co-Edits Women's Poetry Book
The project combined the work of 73 artists from all over the local area.
J.R. Turek, a poet from East Meadow, said that she is extremely excited about her latest literary venture.
"Whispers and Shouts" is the newest work of Turek, Gail Goldstein of Bellmore and the combined the minds of 73 women in between two covers.
"Its such a cliche' to say that it's been an amazing experience, but the whole process has been," Turek said. "To see a dream come true like this is even something a poet like myself can't sufficiently put into words.

"It's so thrilling for all of us," Goldstein added. "The poets were just as excited as Judy and I were."
The process to get all of the poets together wasn't an easy one. Turek and Goldstein are active in the poetry community, so they handed out fliers whenever they could. After the poets submitted their work, they had the chance to review what it looked like before the book was published.

"I feel so honored that they submitted their poetry and valued what we were trying to do," Goldstein said.
Part of the proceeds raised from the book go to Women's Shelters. Goldstein and Turek are collecting toilet trees to be donated as well. For more information on the book, click here.
