Third Street Road Improvement Project Nearing Completion

Town officials anticipate project completion within two weeks.

The Town of Hempstead's road improvement project on Third Street in East Meadow is nearing completion, town officials said.

Construction, which began in July, includes new curbs, driveway aprons and asphalt pavement and the installation of pedestrian access ramps and the restoration of "disturbed grass areas."

Kim Nacionales told Patch her son was returning home from East Meadow High School Tuesday and fell while walking on Third Street.

"The school opens next week and it's the route most kids take home," she said. "I have been back and forth several time in the last few days and there has been no work being done there ... I want them to avoid the turnpike but the only other way is being worked on."

Construction is expected to be completed within two weeks.

Nacionales, however, thinks the project should be completed before the start of school Sept. 4. "That street is going to be a nightmare when it does," she said.
