How come nothing about the meeting tomorrow night at medical center? We need to fight to stop the Taxi stand at corner of Clearmeadow Dr and Hempstead Turnpike.
Danielle De Souza (Editor) October 21, 2012 at 09:38 PM
Mr. Collins please email me at danielle.desouza@patch.com. I am working on this story.

I am a neighbor in the community and sent Ms. Souza a letter on Friday regarding this subject, asking for help to stop the taxi stand. I received a letter in the mail on Friday (only notification) from the Office of the Supervisor, Town of Hempstead about this matter. I am shocked, appalled, and outraged (as are all neighbors) that 333 All Seasons ask for "SPECIAL" consideration to build a taxi stand business in our residential neighborhood. This action would RUIN our neighborhood, cause gridlock on Clearmeadow Drive, accidents, parking congestion, safety issues. The taxis would utilize neighbor's houses for parking spots and cut through our blocks to get to main roads. We would lose our suburban quality of life. Through a neighbor today, I learned, there will be a meeting at the medical center tomorrow night (I believe at 7:00, in the auditorium.) There will also be a public hearing on October 24th at 2:00 in the Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavillion, Town of Hempstead, One Washington Street, Hempstead. Case #1005/12-1006/12. Angry residents can voice their complaints online at: http://toh.li/board-of-appeals/hearings-comment-form before October 24, 2012 or by snail mail to: Mr. David Weiss, Chairman of the Board of Appeals,One Washington Street,Hempstead,NY 11550. All Seasons is asking for a special exception to parcel of land that is not zoned for this kind of business, and lacking parking space. If you care about our neighborhood, fight against this! It's your EAST MEADOW!

Thanks Linda, that's great info. I'll definitely voice my complaint online.

Even though I don't agree with a Taxi stand in EM, The vacant Italian Ice building in Zachary parking lot might be a location for the All Season Taxi to consider. The idea of readily available cabs at the Aura & Zachary night clubs for all the intoxicated patrons might reduce the number of DWI and Fatalities in our community. Just a thought.

@EM Neighborhood watch: I agree, the vacant Rita's Italian ice stand, in parking lot near Zachary's and Modells would be a better fit. I believe, there were talks of Sonic coming in there, however, those plans were shot down due to increased traffic and safety concerns. Funny thing is, Clearmeadow Drive is a residential block (already heavily congested at the outgoing light) why on earth would this property even be considered for a business like this? And, why wasn't this one of the top stories on The Patch? All Seasons is a realty and taxi service, the neighbors in this area are OUTRAGED and don't want their business to be built on Clearmeadow Drive. Would anyone want a taxi stand in a very residential/suburban neighborhood on the end of their block? The property values, safety issues and quality of life will all go down hill. We would see taxis littering our neighborhood. 333 All Seasons, should not receive any special consideration, the property is not zoned for this kind of establishment. I am also angry that the only notification I received about this being built was on Friday...something fishy about that.

Linda, I agree with you as well. I have a friend who resides on Clear meadow and frequent that intersection adjacent to Autozone. The taxi service should reconsider. I'm aware of the Sonic being denied approval. The owners of Aura & Zachary had a stake in Sonics proposal. The parking that would be utilized for Sonic would have been detrimental to the two bars. The patrons park as far as Home Depot and the congestion would reek havoc on East Meadow Ave residents. Isn't ironic how large bill board signs are erected for D&D parking at Front & Merrick, Sonic for the Rita location yet, I don't believe, one has been erected for All Season.. Hmmm Smells Fishy indeed.

There is a large TOH permit sign on the property. All Season is requesting rezoning for a taxi stand. I commented on the Patch last week and nobody reacted to the post. Nothing fishy about it, just the Town of Hempstead doing whatever they want and East Meadow residents do nothing to stop it. I guess EM residents just like to complain about bad decisions. Get off your butts and get participate! It would be nice if the Patch focused more on local issues like this.
Linda Green October 22, 2012 at 04:17 PM
@Frank, the sign just recently went up. I guess it went up the day the letter went out to all local residents...received mine on Friday. It's our East Meadow and we should all be angry and do something about it. I just signed up for The Patch, so, I didn't see your post last week. I'm going to the meeting tonight, and, I wrote the board of appeals, everyone should do their part. If we want to see our town turn into Queens, do nothing. However, if you still care about your little piece of suburbia, get up and say you're not going to sit there and watch your neighborhood turn into a sewer. I wrote the new editor on Friday and again yesterday and still no local story about this....
Frank T October 22, 2012 at 05:19 PM
Linda, I filled out the hearing comment form but I am not sure what to fill in under "applicant". For "location" I entered Hempstead. I won't be able to attend tonight's meeting but please keep us informed if you find out anything new. Thanks!
Linda Green October 22, 2012 at 09:11 PM
@Frank, thanks for taking the time to fill out the comment form, anyone and everyone, get the word out to fight the propsed TAXI depot (on Clearmeadow Drive), send in your comments to oppose this business before October 24th to: http://toh.li/board-of-appeals/hearings-comment-form (case number and any other information you need is on toh website or above). Don't forget to go to the emergency neighborhood meeting tonight at 7pm at NUMC in the auditorium. It's your East Meadow, stand up for it! This is a local resident problem, where's the story on this, still waiting,,,,,

@Frank & Linda. Thank you for making it easy to be heard. I have posted a comment and linked this to my FB page and business website. I appreciate the effort everyone makes to keep the 5 boroughs out of our area.

I went to the community meeting tonight, sat in front row, our neighbors showered the proposed buyer, realtor and counsel with their outrage. After signing petitions, voicing our true concerns, we were told at end of meeting that the public hearing to be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, will be postponed till a later date. The owner of 333 All Seasons Realty Corp., can see this little community will not back down. We let him and his cronies know, we do not want a taxi stand in our neighborhood and will fight this tooth and nail. I want to thank Norma Gonsaleves for helping organize the meeting at the NUMC tonight. I want to thank everyone who attended this meeting, It was so nice to see our neighbors band together, makes me really know what we are fighting for. Also, met the very pleasant, Ms. De Souza, our new East Meadow patch editor. I look forward to your story about this. Well, it's not over, till it's over, so stay tuned..and remember neighbors, it's your East Meadow! Oh,one more thing, if you haven't already done so, write the town of appeals voicing your concern about this matter..Thanks! Linda G.
