Weekend Planner: The Memorial Day Edition

Patch's "Weekend Planner" column lets East Meadow know what's going on for the weekend ahead.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit:

1.
Where/When: ; Friday, May 27 at 8:15 p.m.
Why Go: In honor of the Memorial Day weekend, veterans are invited to come down and celebrate Shabbat during this special event. It will feature a service and dinner to celebrate those who have served the country. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Pricing: Free.
 
2.
Where/When: Jones Beach State Park in Wantagh; Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Why Go: F-22 Raptors and an wide range of other aircraft will be performing – need we say more? The air show is somewhat of a local tradition to recognize the kick off of the summer season. Head down to the beach during the day to check out all of the cool aircraft, then head home and fire up the barbecue.
Pricing: Free to view, a $10 fee is collected per vehicle upon entry of Jones Beach.

Where/When: ; Saturday, May 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Why Go: The United States Marine Corp and Navy will be coming to East Meadow to show off some land and air demonstrations. A great way to kick off the holiday weekend in a beautiful park. Pack a lunch for a picnic after the show and enjoy the start of summer.
Pricing: Free.

Where/ When: ; Sunday, May 29 at 10 a.m.
Why Go: Reflect and honor those who have served our country with this annual ceremony. The United Veterans Organization will be on hand, as will other military units and local residents. In the midst of a weekend filled with fun and barbecues, this service is a good way to remember what Memorial Day is really about.
Pricing: Free.

5.
Where/When: Starts at ; Monday, May 30 beginning at 10 a.m.
Why Go: Support the community with this annual parade, which begins at East Meadow High School and ends at Veterans Memorial Park. Local business, organizations, girl scouts, boy scouts and veteran associations will be marching. The W.T. Clarke High School and East Meadow High School Jet Marching Bands will be performing for all to enjoy.
