Town Officials Target Luddington Road Tree

After residents called for action, officials have responded.

Residents in the vicinity of Luddington Road in East Meadow have been pleading for days to have their power issues addressed, and it looks like officials are taking steps in that direction.

Hurricane Irene caused residents of the area particular heart ache when a tree at the intersection of Luddington Road and Shari Lane fell towards the street and demolished the power lines. The tree had been in the street, and the road had been blocked ever since.

"Norma Gonsalves and I have been working very hard on getting this area of East Meadow cleared and for the power restored," Assemblyman Thomas McKevitt, R-East Meadow, said. "After numerous calls, LIPA certified that the power was turned off this morning and the Town of Hempstead removed the tree."
