5. Police: East Meadow Man Blinded Restaurant Worker in Assault: Premaras Selvaratnam, 31 of East Meadow was arrested on Jan. 21 after he allegedly assaulted a Hicksville restaurant employee, leaving him blind in one eye.

4.Police Seek Suspect in East Meadow Bank Robbery: Police are looking for a woman that was involved in a robbery at TD Bank on Jan. 27.

3. County Breaks Ground on Eisenhower's 'Twin Rinks' Ice Center: The groundbreaking for the new privately financed “Twin Rinks” sports complex and recreation center was held at Eisenhower Park on Jan. 17. The facility will have two NHL regulation-size hockey rinks inside and a rink outside for skating lessons, youth player development programs, tournaments and more.

2. Fire Damages Three East Meadow Businesses: On Jan. 1, a fire started at Spice & Curry Halal Meat and spread to the two adjacent businesses.

1. UPDATE: Car Accident Causes Fire at BP Gas Station:  A fire broke out at BP Gas Station on Hempstead Turnpike as a result of a car accident on Jan. 22.
