Thousands in East Meadow Still Remain Without Power Weeks After Sandy

Norma Gonsalves said that she was told that residents will have their electricity back by Tuesday night.

Fifteen days after Hurricane Sandy hit Long Island, 1,718 customers are still without power as of 9:30 a.m. on Monday, according to LIPA.

Residents expressed their anger and frustration toward LIPA on East Meadow Patch's Facebook page , saying that they feel abandoned by the company and that have not been given straight answers after spending days in cold and dark homes with small children and pets.

Acting Presiding Officer an East Meadow resident, said that she spoke to the CEO of National Grid on Friday.

"I am doing all that I can," she said. "Different areas were restored and I was reassured that all power will be restored by tomorrow night."
