This Week in Blogs: Sandy Workshops, Heat Wave Safety, Phish Swim in Nassau

Every day on Patch, locals share their opinions on a variety of subjects.

Here are some of the most interesting blogs from the past week:

  • Denenberg Hosts Superstorm Sandy Workshops: Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg, D-Merrick, together with Village of Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy, presents two community meetings regarding rebuilding and elevating homes, Town of Hempstead and Village of Freeport building permit requirements, insurance issues and advocacy and FEMA assistance.
  • Chiropractic Wellness for Pregnant Women: The American Pregnancy Association states on its website that chiropractic care while pregnant is safe as long as the practitioner is trained to deliver prenatal chiropractic care.
  • Time to Put the Pedal to the Metal: For those of you who don't remember, I once had a blog on Patch called "Mike's Weight Loss Challenge."
  • Have We Failed as Historians?: Any honest assessment of the degree to which historical societies, museums, and schools have disseminated historical information to the public writ large is an agonizing reappraisal because one quickly comes to the conclusion that our endeavors have been shockingly limited in success.
  • Heat Wave Safety: To quote both Ethel Merman and Marilyn Monroe, last week we were “having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave”.
  • Just Sixties — Outdoor Music Summer Concert: Bring your tie-dyed shirts, fringed jackets and love beads and relive the fads, culture, news and Americana of the sixties, while listening to your favorite hits from The Beatles,The Beach Boys, The Doors, The Temptations, The Rolling Stones,The Monkees, Sonny & Cher, Simon & Garfunkel and so many more.
  • Phish Swim to the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater: American jam band, Phish played through the rain in Jones Beach.
