Sept. 30: Dog Attack, Man Asleep at the Wheel, LIPA Raising Rates

Some things to keep an eye out for on this Friday.

  1. A woman sustained serious injuries after when she was attacked by two Pitbulls at Brookside School, police said. Police shot and killed one of the animals, although one, described as tan with white on the stomach area, has not yet been apprehended.
  2. A man escaped unharmed after his car crashed and flipped in front of Steven's House of Deals in East Meadow. According to Steve Sach's, owner of the store, the driver admitted to falling asleep at the wheel after he had just worked an overnight shift.
  3. The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) has said that rising fuel costs have forced the company into pushing a 2 percent rate hike starting in October. The average customer will pay $3 more per month.
  4. Head on over to the Bellmore Long Island Rail Road Station at 6 p.m. for the Friday Night Car Show. Last week's show was cancelled due to the weather, and this one will go on as planned, weather permitting.
  5. The East Meadow Public Library will be hosting the Marilyn Bunshaft Memorial Concert to Promote Early Breast Cancer Detection on Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. Dario Boente and Projecto Sur will be performing, as well as the internationally known bandoneon player Jofre Romarion.
