Sandy Claus Makes a Special Visit to East Meadow

Pocket Change to Make a Change held its Sandy Claus Toy Drive for families affected by Hurricane Sandy.

The rain did not stop Sandy Claus from coming to East Meadow.

Pocket to Change to Make a Change held its Sandy Claus Toy Drive on Saturday and still received a good amount of donations despite the weather.

"We did not have the DJ and all the things we were going to have because of the rain, but it has been good, Mike Gordon, one of the founders of Pocket Change to Make a Change said.

Residents dropped off an array of gifts and three Christmas trees during the drive.

The items will be distributed to children in the Rockaways and Island Park and to single mothers in the Bronx, who lost their jobs due to Hurricane Sandy.

Gordon said that he is proud of his organization's effort and of the residents of East Meadow.

"People are helping people and that is the best thing that we can do," he said. "It is the best thing that you can give your neighbors, family and friends."

Residents can drop off brand new unwrapped toys and gift cards until Dec. 23 by requesting a drop off time and day by emailing GiveBack@live.com.
