Residents Concerned About Theft From Vacated Home

After a fire, the house was left empty, and residents reported mischief at a recent civic meeting.

At last week's Council of East Meadow Civic Organizations (CEMCO) meeting, multiple residents raised concerns about the unoccupied property at 195 Nancy Drive in East Meadow.

According to residents, people have been seen trespassing onto the property and stealing from the vacant home.

East Meadow resident Bill Alderman, who is also a member of the East Meadow Citizens Patrol, a group of volunteers who drive around East Meadow and alert authorities if anything is out of the ordinary, took a drive down to the property to take a firsthand look.

The ladies claimed that they thought that people were taking stuff from the house, criminals were breaking in and vagrants were sleeping in the boarded up house. But that is truly not the case.

The contractor saw the East Meadow Citizens Patrol task force volunteers taking exterior pictures and invited me inside to see what was the reality of the story.

The house has been gutted from the basement to the second floor ceiling except for the beams, pipes and wires. No possessions remain inside at all. In the yard, there is only a pool, a lacrosse stick and old barbecue. The workmen board up the windows and doors and no one gets inside but them. They take all their tools home each night, so there is nothing for residents to be concerned with. They are repairing this house with expertise and care.

Absolutely no possessions of the owner remain in the house. They were removed shortly after the fire and put in storage before the contractor ever got there, and he said he has been working there for a while so far. No criminal or squatter has ever been inside that they know of, as the place seems secure.
