Exhibit Spotlights Photography of John Aveni, Scott Ross

Winners of the Friends of the EMPL photography contest display their works.

Photography by John Aveni and Scott Ross, winners of the fourth annual Friends of the East Meadow Public Library photography competition, is being showcased at the library throughout October.

An opening reception was held Sunday. Aveni is a recent East Meadow High School graduate and Ross hails from Freeport.

Ross said his "journey behind the lens" began when he started documenting his travels around the world. Ross has visited more than 20 countries and said he tries to convey a "relaxed and causal" experience during photo sessions.

"It is at these moments when the subject forgets about the camera and their pure personality comes out," he said.

Aveni said his interest in photography began at age 14 when he started documenting his friends on skateboards. He's expanded his work to now include photos of nature, like the scenic shot of a lake now on display.

The East Meadow Public Library is located at 1886 Front St. in East Meadow. Call 794-2570 for more information.
